From Forbes.com
This longtime Georgetown favorite is one of the prettiest restaurants with some of the best American food in the nation's capital. Whether you are coming here for a romantic dinner or to celebrate Thanksgiving, 1789 never disappoints. Even before entering this elegant Federal-era townhouse it is easy to tell that this is something pretty special. Divided into five dining rooms, each with its own theme, the restaurant manages to look like something out of a Currier & Ives print and the food is even better. Although chef Ris Lacoste manages to instill a whiff of the exotic into some of her dishes, for the most part the cooking is variations on American classics such as rack of lamb, crab cakes and brook trout in season. Desserts are equally good, as is the selection of wines. Reservations necessary.
